You should not visit Croatia without having the opportunity to visit Dubrovnik. The Pearl of the Adriatic is just a few hours’ drive along the pristine Croatian coast, so join us on a Split to Dubrovnik day trip. Getting to Dubrovnik takes just over 3 hours, however, the time will fly since the route takes you through picturesque places and charming nature. The ride itself is an experience, but the final reward is the historic city of Dubrovnik. This UNESCO World Heritage Site shines in its full glory for centuries and hasn’t failed to impress anyone who stepped within the old city walls.

Highlights

Enjoy a relaxing 3-hour ride along the Southern Dalmatian coastline. For maximum comfort, you'll ride in small to medium groups with a brand new van or minibus: AC and Wi-Fi are included. Croatian coastline is spectacular, so you'll have lots of opportunities to take pictures and enjoy views along the way. Your trip will fly by in no time because you'll take in so many sights.

Discover the city’s numerous attractions, such as the medieval defensive walls, the main street Stradun, and the old town. Although the city’s history dates back to the 7th century, the architecture remains in a way that makes you feel like you went back in time.

The gastronomy of the region complements its culture, so don't skip out on trying some of its specialties. Ston is a small town that is known for sea salt farming but mostly for extraordinary oysters and mussels, they are recommended for a starter. Lamb or veal traditionally cooked in an iron bell, or the finest fresh Adriatic fish, are excellent choices for an entrée. With good local wines, you've got a feast.

    MEETUP & DEPARTURE

    07:45h - 08:00h
Meet up and departure is early in the morning so we can avoid crowds. Make sure you arrive at the meeting spot at least 15 min earlier as a courtesy to other passengers. We will check that everyone arrived, show your seats, and give you a small brief on trip details. Before we leave we will double check if everyone has their passports or IDs (EU citizens) since we have to go through the Neum corridor. The southern part of Croatia is split by Bosnia and Herzegovina so we need to make a short border cross. The Croatian government is in the final stages of building a bridge from the Croatian coast to the peninsula Peljesac that will solve the border problem but until then we need to pass the border to get to Dubrovnik.

    ARRIVAL AND GUIDED SIGHTSEEING

    11:30h - 13:00h
The trip from Split to Dubrovnik lasts about 3 hours, and the first part of the route goes thru a new highway to avoid slow local roads along the coastline. Once we get off the highway a nice panoramic view opens up. First, you’ll witness rich fields and small lakes of the river Neretva delta. Make sure to have your cameras ready!
Once we arrive in Dubrovnik, you’ll be greeted by your professional guide. The guided tour will last for one hour and a half, during which you will be shown the main sites of the city. The Pile Gate, the entrance to the old town's main promenade street, is the starting point of the tour. Stradun is the street name, and it is probably one of the most distinctive spots of the city. The next stop is Franciscan Monastery, again one of the most important spots in the city. A short distance further away is the Sponza Palace, which stands out for its columns and exquisite stone carvings. Nowadays it's used as the State Archive. The tour concludes with a visit to Dubrovnik’s Cathedral, which used to be a church but was destroyed by the Great Earthquake in 1667.

    FREE TIME TO EXPLORE DUBROVNIK

    13:00h - 16:00h
Upon completing the guided tour, you have about three hours of free time to explore Dubrovnik. A nice meal awaits you at the local restaurant, and we recommend the local specialties. Wines from Konavle, Peljesac, and Korcula pair perfectly with local cuisine. Don’t hesitate to try seafood from the Adriatic because everything is served fresh from the sea.
Dubrovnik is packed with attractions so the time you spend there should be used wisely. Explore the local streets, explore the local architecture, and experience the history. You can walk along the stonewalls which are around 1940 meters long, take a cable car to the top of Srd mountain, and take stunning aerial photos of the old town. Dubrovnik is waiting to be explored, and you will not be disappointed.

Know before you go

Do you have to go through Bosnia to get to Dubrovnik?

The Croatian border is specific as the Bosnian border splits the southern part of Dalmatia. To get to Dubrovnik we need to go through the Neum corridor. As soon as we exit the highway, we will be nearing the Bosnian border, and the drive through takes between 15-20 minutes. You need your passport and if you are an EU citizen, your ID is sufficient. When the Peljesac Bridge is finished, there will be no need to go through Bosnia to get to Dubrovnik.

Game of Thrones Tour

Dubrovnik is also known as Kings Landing in the popular TV show Game of Thrones. There are numerous filming locations and the best thing about these tours is that the guides used to be extras on the show. You might get some nice stories from the set while exploring popular spots.

How much does it cost to walk the wall in Dubrovnik?

The stone walls are one of the best attractions of the city but unfortunately are not free. Ticket prices range from 70 HRK (Croatian kuna) for adults to 30 HRK for kids under 18 yrs. Hours of operation in the summer are from 08:00-19:00 and in the winter, from 10:00-15:00.
